Department of MICROBIOLOGY

Unraveling the Microbial Mysteries

Objectives

Welcome to the Department of Microbiology, where we investigate into the intricate world of microorganisms and their profound impact on health and disease.

Our objectives encompass:

  • Equipping students with a robust understanding of bacteriology, virology, mycology, immunology, and parasitology.
  • Exploring pathogenic microorganisms, their characteristics, transmission, prevention, and control of diseases prevalent in the country.
  • Enabling learners to master clinical sample collection, transportation, diagnostic techniques, and result interpretation.
  • Fostering skills in handling basic microbiological equipment, result documentation, data analysis, and dispatch of the results.

Facilities

Our department boasts advanced facilities that facilitate holistic learning:

  • Comprehensive Laboratories: Equipped for practical sessions and experiments, accommodating up to 60 students.
  • Demonstration Room: Enhanced with audio-visual aids to ensure effective teaching and learning.
  • Resourceful Library: Stocked with books, journals, and CDs for academic exploration and research.
  • Microbiology Museum: A unique collection showcasing diagnostic microbiology and various infectious diseases.

Departmental Activities

  • Competency-Based Learning: Our teaching aligns with the NMC guidelines for Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME).
  • Assessment Framework: Regular assessments, formative and summative exams, nurturing critical thinking skills.
  • Interactive Sessions: Seminars, tutorials, workshops, and skill labs for active student engagement.
  • Clinical Correlations: Linking microbiological concepts to real-world clinical scenarios.
